blah day

Have a great weekend, everyone.Me? I miffed at you know who shall not be named. But I'm hoping to have a good weekend. We plan to hit a few of the local bookstores that we never get to, anymore; so that should be pretty fun. Maybe I'll have some more new acquistions to crow about, next week. :)

Something Shiny Rambling with Vicki and Laurie

Oh, and since it's getting so few hits, I thought I'd point this out to you, my friend Laurie has got a post about women's likes and dislikes. And she's hoping to pick one commenter to whom she'll gift "something shiny"! You may see it here.

She tells me she's going to pick a winner tomorrow.

;) I think my brownie points are safe for the day. I didn't want to be *evil* and keep this to myself, after all!

And finally

So, I've decided I should probably start actually blogging here, more often than not. What do you think? I'm looking into how to promote this little thing a bit more too--who knows how that will end up going. But it's an idea, at any rate.

So how was your Valentine's Day? Did your sweetie have something nice planned for your day?

Around my house we don't tend to do a lot for the holiday. Oh, my hubby knows how to spoil me, don't get me wrong, but I'm not so much the flowers and candy girl. :) Give me stuffed animals, and I am happy! This year was no exception. So the stuffed animal collection is bigger by one, and we can write this down as another good Valentine's day. Actually, as an extra added tradition, the 14th was my favorite grandma's birthday, so I tend to think of her on the day as well as stuffed animals and snuggling day. :)

In other news, though I felt a little under the weather, I had a good time, and learned a lot, at the romance writers meeting this week. Thanks to Vicki and the girls for setting up our guest speaker. It was well worth it. And thanks to all my pals for the thumbs up and congratulations they sent my way on the recent acceptance of one of my stories. That just tickled me. Y'all are the best!

This is so cool

I'm just tickled pink about this, I got word from author Kathy Carmichael that my review of her last book, Hot Flash, is quoted in her new book, Diary of A Confessions Queen.(*eeee*)

How cool is that??? I can't wait to see it!
It's not included in the promo flat I have, nor in the review copy I have of Confessions Queen, so I had no idea until this morning.

If anyone wants to get it (and I highly recommend it), your local bookstores might have a copy, or you can get it here

She's a really nice gal, and tells a funny-as-hell story, so I recommend her, heartily. :) Still... woohoo! I got quoted--in print! :) I had to share.

Wrote up an article on Crossed Genres' Stories for Haiti relief (featuring several local authors)--I even contributed a story there, folks, but there are several other great authors contributing. So do check it: http://tinyurl.com/y94vo3h

Posted story for Haiti Project--acceptance

Hi everyone. I hope y'all are well, not too cold. :)

Yes, I have some news. Crossed Genres accepted my short story "The Captain's Merciful Death" for their compilation of "posted stories for Haiti relief" project! :) Go to their site *points at link*, and you'll find my name (Julianne Draper), click through and you can read the story. :)

http://crossedgenres.com/haiti/

Yes, it's not an *actual* publication, but I'm tickled, and hopefully it can help out some of those folks in need.

Love,
Juli

My favorite holiday.

My favorite holiday? Halloween. I know, how that must sound, but I just love dressing up, and with my brother enamored of it too, we sometimes go all out with tableux and so forth for the holiday. Second favorite holiday is Christmas, of course--the colors, the food, the gift exchanges, what's not to love? :) It's all the stressful stuff I could do without.

Happy Veteran's Day!

For the Veterans Day holiday, I found an interesting book, starring a veteran, to review for you. You can can see it here, if you like.

and thanks to our vets! :) You're appreciated, especially in my family, where we have/had many of them, from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.

speaking of train wrecks

My book became one, so I've started it all over, from scratch. *sigh* A year of work down the tubes....

writing projects and train wrecks...

Too late for National Novel Writing Month, and being in the middle of something else that I don't really want to stop, (and never really being a big fan of NaNoWriMo anyway--since....50,000 a month=ouch and been there, done that before it caught on) I was amused today to find (ready for this?) NaNoRevisMo. Which shouldn't kill the hands as much, methinks.

Now if only they had pretty web badges. ;)

And good luck to all my friends in NaNoWriMo.

Saturday's speaker

Just wanted to add that the workshops Saturday were great. Particular was impressed by the things author Rachel Hauck talked about setting me thinking from then, even to today. Her My Book Therapy blog has some really good advice too, so I hope she doesn't mind me linking here. Thanks again, TARA, for bringing her in! :)

October TARA meeting

Had a fantastic day at the TARA meeting today. It was fantastic to meet everyone, and I am looking forward to going to the next (hopefully the December party too). Got home with some good advice and no time to implement it, but! Shall do so asap. And when I got home, found something nice in the mail. So I'm all giddy. :) No, nothing like an acceptance letter, but nice nonetheless! :)

I hope all my readers have/have had a great Saturday, too!
