Post nanwrimo 2016 update

So Nanowrimo, done, over for another year. How'd y'all make out? I myself hit the golden spot several days ago, clocked in at 53,702 words by their count.

53,702 / 50000 words. 100+% done (sort of!)

So, with the hand feeling the carpal tunnel backlash a little bit, I thought I'd do a vlog instead. Yep. The lighting wasn't as good as I thought it was when I was yaking in that room, (I think it's the camera not picking enough up), but it's getting darker sooner so filming outside is becoming less and less easy. I hope it fits for this blog and I'll keep working on finding better lighting situations. Until then, though, Enjoy!

Likes and subscribes to ye old youtube channel are welcome, if you'd like to. :) Thanks for watching/reading.

Nanowrimo day 23: Progress Report #amwriting #Nanowrimo2016

So, how've y'all been doing in your word counts, my friends? Mine have been... better than I'd hoped, given hand pain. Some days I've not hit the 1667 needed, and but mostly this month I've exceeded the count (case in point,  yesterday=3,000+ words and the day before was 4,000 words). It just all depends on the day. I've got baking to do today, before the holiday, but I still think I can hit 50,000 before the end of the month. In fact, I'm sure of it, where I left off last night. I might even pass it on Monday or Tuesday, if all goes well. My official count today?

36234 / 50000 words. 72% done!

(No, I have not updated it on the Nano site. I usually only do that at 10s. This time, I'm hoping the next update will be 50k so haven't stopped to do any validation. Sleeping, eating, yes; email, yes; blog, yes, and okay, maybe I've paused to do a wee bit of historical research, but validation? Not so much.

Boy, I tell ya, that 36k certainly looked further away than 72% until I updated that bar! Woot! Quite a difference from saying earlier in the month that I wasn't sure about this, right?

Granted, the knitting and blogging has had to suffer, and I've been meaning to make a Nano-tagged video but...best laid plans. Writing comes first, and  that's okay. :)

How are y'all doing with your Nano projects?

Nanowrimo update day #19 #amwriting #Nanowrimo2016

Just a quickie for today. How ya'll doing? I'm ...ouchie! And a day...well,I won't say wasted. Some days I've not hit the 1667 needed, and some days I've exceeded the count. It just all depends on the day. I did do some writing yesterday, but I'm starting to feel my carpal tunnel rear it's ugly head, so I needed a break. So I shot some videos for the Youtube Pagan Challenge. Who, me? Perpetually behind? Surely you jest?

The Videos are:

and more here, if you'd like to take a break and do some mindless Youtube surfing.

On the writing front, I decided to make a left turn with my Nanowrimo manuscript so a little bit of the wip has changed. It's been a fun change, though. I've also noticed (again) that Nano's counter vs. my computer's word count are slightly different so I always have to seem to do a little more than my goal mark to make sure Nano's goal fits correctly. Oh well. it's not a big deal.

How'm I doing today?  25k words down, more to go, and 10 days to do it. Yeah. I got this. :) I think, with the idea I'm coming up with, in the end the manuscript will exceed 50,000 words. I'm just hoping I can hit that 50,000 before November 30th's cut off. I've managed before (yes, even with Thanksgiving break).

How are y'all doing with your Nano projects?

Addendum to last post about #Nanowrimo2016--or, slowing down when?

And then, Aine Orga reminds me, this being the tail end of the year, just after Samhain, and just before Winter Solstice, it's more the time to slow down than speed up. Time to give ourselves a break.

Which puts the thought back in my mind why the hell is Nanowrimo scheduled in November?!?

I mean, realistically,  I get why they chose November: To give us poor, broke authors time to create something for Xmas gifts. But that doesn't factor in time for your beta readers to read your crap first draft, nor time for you to revise it, and get it back to your editor, and them time to read it, and you time to sulk and revise it and sulk some more.

Just to give you a bit more realistic look at how long it may take to produce gold from your Nano coal: Lady of the Tarot took me six years from seed of first idea (before I discovered Nano, to be frank, but ironically, about the same time of year) t'ill the day I felt it ready to hit publish.

Six years for one book, but that was actually a really, really teeth-pulling project. At one point, my good friend that eggs me on thought for sure our dear Lady wouldn't see the light of day, ever.

And that, my friends,is why I have so many writing projects going at once. I'm sure it's probably the same for all my other published writer friends. Our Nano projects are just one more for the "soon to be revised" piles.

(Case in point: even though I wrote in my last post that I want to whip my barely-started Victorian into shape, Caitlin's got a great idea she's wanting me to steam ahead at, too. And she may actually take point. Too bad Nano doesn't give you slots for multiple projects. :))

So I don't know...We'll see how my Nanowrimo run turns out this year. Anybody got a brand new set of fingers I can borrow this month?

Still not sure about #Nanowrimo2016

Why do I say I'm "not sure"? (No, that's not a reference to Idiocracy!) Simply, if you've followed my blogs for any length of time you know I've tried Nanwrimo before. Even "won" one year.

I used it in... 2014 (I think?) with Mourning Dove Locket to get my head around that story. To be very honest, I think I crammed half of MDL into that last week of Nano that year. I attempted it with Druid Warrior's Heart for the same reason (um, switch 'em. DWH was in--oh, lord!, 2012); I finished DWH's November run getting real close that year. I think it was... 48,000 or something like that. I moved its forthcoming follow up into the next Nano (2013). Spent that year gussying up DWH, and as for the follow up?  Yes, you read right, it's still in the works. Ugh.(Strangely enough, LADY OF THE TAROT is one of the few manuscripts-in-progress that didn't get logged into NanoWrimo. I worked on it around all the others.)

I did attempt Camp Wrimo this summer. I had a  *cough* secret*cough* project I was trying to bulk up so it seemed like a good idea. But revisions of other things took precedence and so I ended up bowing out. I'm now almost done with that project (I think! I hope.)  As of yesterday, my total word count for the year was nothing to sneeze at, anyway. 111,930 words. Yeah. Twice as much as Nano's official (arbitrary) 50k (but I will admit, that is half the word count of the year before). Because? I'm  still revising the stuff from the year before (and from 2013, apparently)!

I've also had three releases this year, and this blog, and other stuff going on that requires the fingers and thinking of anything but new fictional text.

I do have two books I'm revising now (this month!), plus two more you haven't heard about yet, (one of which my friend is going to bop me if I don't get off my butt and get to releasing!) And one which I've been trying to get out to a beta reader since early 2015. (which I wrote something like 40,000 words of in two weeks of January, 2014, that one, if I remember. Hey, when the bug bites... :))

Revising all that text is the biggest problem with Nano: forcing myself to write fast involves way less care to the writing and more revisions than I would have if I didn't cram a novel into one month. And yet, nearly 112k  this year, isn't anything to sneeze at. That's what comes from not scheduling myself to write only in one month. Sure the difference in word count from last year to this bugs me, but... I don't want to drop what I'm doing right now--revising one book I have to get out to my beta reader now now, and revising one she's already seen. Guess which one I want to release first?

(My editor is going to bop me!)

However, I did just sign in and fill out my "novel" info for this year. I'd like to do another Victorian Romance, but as you can see, I've got a lot of other more pressing revisions going on right now. So I don't know how far through it I'm going to be able to get before November 30th.

Point is, if you want to write, sit your butt down at the computer, sans social media!, and just write.  Even 400 words a day will get you there. You might surprise yourself with what you can do if you apply a little self-determination to mix.

So, I hope y'all do well in Nano this month, but I don't know how I'm going to do or how many official check ins I'll be able to make. If I can just get a good working title for the project besides "Character's Name's Victorian Romance", I might have something. :) I'd like to get beyond chapter one (yes, I confess, I have one chapter I've already written and been struggling with ever since), but we'll see. Good luck, everyone!

Druids speak--Other worlds of Romance #fantasyromance #interview

Old Vintage Radio by tungphoto/ Freedigitalphotos.net
"Old Vintage Radio" by tungphoto/ Freedigitalphotos.net

Hi folks.
Sorry I've been so quiet lately. I've been neck deep in revising two books at once.... and writing a third. Yes, I have not given up on the book that was my Antique Magic Nanowrimo project (before I bailed on Nanowrimo this year. Haven't bailed on the book, mind you. I just finally decided the insane pace of Nanowrimo is not my pace). So I've been busily typing...well, elsewhere. The good news is, one of those books is finally off to its final round. Once I get the notes back from the editor, and make all the necessary changes, that one, at least will be going live. *squee* I'm excited about this one; it's something I've been working on for a long time. I'll have a cover and blurb to share with you, probably sometime after the new year. Patience!

On another note, did you catch my interview with Other Worlds of Romance a week ago? If not, you can hear it here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/other_worlds_of_romance/2015/12/01/juli-d-revezzo-returns-as-my-guest-author-on-november-30th

We had fun chatting, and I read an excerpt from my latest historical fantasy romance novel, Druid Warrior's Heart. So grab a cup of coffee, and take a listen!

* with apologies to Linda Mooney for taking so long to post the link here.

Anyway, that's my short update for now. Have a good one!

Nanowrimo progress day 3

Nanowrimo paricipant badge

Progress...progress... Well? I did some. But true to form, I've been distracted this last day with some work on  a different project that is so close to completion, I can't help but work on it. If you're a friend of mine Facebook, you've already seen me squee about my total word count output this year alone. Butt in chair is good, and doesn't matter what you work on, so long as you work on it!

I hope to get some more done soon. For my readers, that "close to completion" book (the new  Reign of Tarot title) is coming. :) It looks like early next year will see a couple releases. Stay tuned!

Good morning, everyone. I hope y'all are well. Are ya ready for Halloween?

How about Nanowrimo? Are any of you,my readers, participating in the madness, this year? All right. i decided (despite what I said early) that I am throwing my hat in, again.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this fine review that showed up for my novelette, Bicycle Requiem:

Revezzo created quite the creative story. I've always enjoyed her work. A great add to your tbr list." ~Denise. Read the full review at Amazon.
