Guest Post Cynthia Woolf's latest #historical #romance COLORADO BRIDE #newrelease #IARTG

I hope y'all are having a good day. I am. It's my pleasure to bring you another guest post today. A friend of mine has a new book release so I invited her to tell us a bit about it. Please take a look at and enjoy historical romance author Cynthia Woolf's latest release, COLORADO BRIDE.

BLURB for COLORADO BRIDE

Emily Loring survived the last few years as a governess to a rich family's children. But when the lord of the house can't keep his hands to himself, she's left with no option but to risk everything as a mail-order bride. Raised in a New York orphanage, she's always dreamed of a husband and children of her own, but even that small dream always felt out of reach. The city is all she's ever known, but the promise of a family, a place to call home, drives her to risk everything and head for the wilds of the Colorado Territory, and the arms of a stranger.

Ben Logan fell in love once, to a city girl who left him at the altar to run off with another man. A mail-order bride appears to be the answer to his need for a wife to warm his bed, as long as she loves the country life as he does. He doesn't need much, but he won't risk his heart again. When Emily arrives, her curves tempt him nearly as much as her smile. But his ex-fiancée is back, and determined to have Ben for herself, even if it means murder...

EXCERPT:

While Ben unloaded the grain from the wagon, Emily walked over to one of the stalls. Inside were a beautiful golden horse and a pure white baby one.
“They’re so beautiful. The mama with her yellow coat and white hair on her neck is striking. Will the baby stay white or change color?”
“The mare is a palomino and, yes, more than likely, the colt will gain the same coloring as he gets older. But he could possibly stay white, which is what I’m hoping for.”
She turned to face him where he stood at the end of the wagon.
“Will you teach me how to ride? I don’t know anything about horses, but I believe that I should learn in case I need to go somewhere.”
He shrugged. “Sure I’ll teach you. I’m surprised you don’t know anything about ranching. I was pretty specific about it as one of my requirements.”
“You said you wanted someone with farming or ranching experience, I know how to milk cows and gather eggs which qualifies, and I’m willing to learn whatever else I need to. I’m a fast learner.”
The mare came up to the stall gate where Emily stood. She turned and reached over to pet the horse. Her nose and mouth felt like velvet.
“Oh, she’s so soft. I never imagined…”
Ben came up behind her.
“Her name is Champagne, because of her coloring. She doesn’t belong to anyone yet. Would you like her?”
“Oh, yes. Can she really be my horse?”
He must at least like me or he wouldn’t gift me with my own horse, and such a beautiful one to boot.
“Yes.”
She turned and Ben was standing right there. Emily reached up, snaked her hand behind his neck and brought his head down to hers. Remembering the kiss he’d given her at their wedding, she mimicked that kiss. She meshed her lips with his and opened just enough to put her tongue out and touch his lips. She felt him smile and open for her exploration.
He let her take what she needed, let her control the kiss and she was pleased. When she finally pulled back she was breathless and her body hummed with awareness of him.
He held her with his arms wrapped loosely around her waist.
“Well, that was some kiss, wife.”
“Just following your lead…husband.”
She liked the sound of that. Husband. She’d begun to believe that she’d never marry and certainly never to anyone like Ben. His arms were strong with muscle, she felt them through his shirt. His stomach was flat and hard. She felt that, too. And she could tell his manhood was primed for her as well and knew she blushed.
“Now, look at what you’ve done to me. I can’t go to the house like this. You better stop kissing me.”
She smiled and shook her head. “Nope. You can ask a lot of things of me, but that isn’t one of them. I’ll always kiss you. Even when we fight, I’ll kiss you because no fight is worth my marriage. And kissing reminds us that we are married.”
“All right, I agree. Besides, I like kissing you.”
She raised an eyebrow and cocked her head. “You should. I only know what you taught me.”
He tightened his hold on her. “And that pleases me.”
“Why? You’ve kissed other girls and that doesn’t bother me. Why should it bother you if I’d kissed another man?”
“Because I want to know that I’m the only man in your life, at least until we have sons.”
The thought of having babies and how babies are begot made her blush. At this rate she’d be colored pink all the time.

Poor Emily. *g* Sounds intriguing though, Cynthia!   Good luck with it! For more on Cynthia, keep reading. :)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cynthia Woolf is the award winning and best-selling author of thirty historical western romance books and two short stories with more books on the way.

Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia’s father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy not a bounty hunter and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now) not the ranch owner. The ranch they met on is still there as part of the open space in Mineral County in southwestern Colorado.

Writing as CA Woolf she has six scifi, space opera romance titles. She calls them westerns in space.

Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband Jim and her great critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

Book reveal, and an update #newrelease #Victorian #romance #BYNR #Sundayblogshare

I hate to keep opening the same way, so why don't we just agree to, well, skip it. :) How are y'all this fine Sunday? I'm doing fine. Got a lot done this week and... drum roll please.

I have a new novel to share with you. Although, by now, maybe you've seen it on my Facebook, Twitter, or sidebar? If not, this one is a Victorian romance, circa 1888. Entitled HOUSE OF DARK ENVY, it's about two ex- young lovers who come back together some years after their break up. The hero's making a name for himself in the then-very new field of electricity and the heroine is trying to come to terms with possible spinsterhood, while honing her artistic skills.

Here is the cover (isn't it lovely?)

House of Dark Envy
And the synopsis goes like this:

When Sarahjane attends Lady Morville’s costume party, she never expects to learn her old beau Felix Gryffith is under the illustrious woman’s patronage and stands on the cusp of making a world-changing discovery. Felix, whose lies disgraced her in the eyes of the London elite by labeling her a flirt.
Felix’s love for Sarahjane has never wavered, despite the scandal that forced them apart. He’s desperate to tell her the truth, if he can convince her to listen.
Fate lurked in the shadows that night, years ago. Has it returned to grant Sarahjane and Felix their wishes, or terrorize them?

HOUSE OF DARK ENVY is available at Amazon in ebook and (soon) in paperback, (which should disseminate out to Barnes and Noble, in due time).

The Look Inside feature is taking its sweet time, again, so here's an excerpt: From the Prologue

Sarahjane slipped into the garden, grabbing onto a wrought iron lattice to steady herself. Her laughter rang through the air. She swung herself around the lattice, and stopped before him, resting her delicate hand on (Felix's) chest.

Her touch warmed him.

Sarahjane lowered her eyes. “Do it for me, Felix. I’ll give you a kiss, if you do.”

Felix swallowed back surprise and longing, glanced around the garden. Everyone was still inside. He ran a hand down her arm. “I’d love to kiss you,” he said. “But not after. I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You won’t.”

He feared it might be possible. His worry darkened as if storm clouds filled him. “I might.”

Sarahjane laced her arms around his neck. “Now, then. But don’t disappoint me.”

Was she going to kiss him?

She licked her lips.

Young desire warred with his reason.

“Your father will kill us if he finds out.”

“No he won’t. He knows I love you.”

She loved him.

Sarahjane stood on her toes and leaned closer, brushing her lips against his. Lightning tingled from her lips, into his heart.

Did someone intrude on them? Felix dismissed all but Sarahjane.

He vibrated almost as he had the day the lightning struck him, but this, this was pleasant, in comparison.

She broke the kiss, batted her lashes. “I do love you, you know. Now. Show me?”

He guided Sarahjane a few strides away from the trellis. Then he returned to it and wrapped his fingers around the warm, iron bar.

“Felix!” His older brother stepped into view behind her. “Oh,” he said. “Pardon me for interrupting.”

Sarahjane snapped around.

“What do you want, Jackson?” Felix asked.

This is a standalone Victorian Romance.

I hope that you will enjoy House of Dark Envy! I must say had fun torturing the (ahem) creating these characters. In the course of my research, I became quite enamored of the inventor Tesla, whose history and work I delved into for our hero Felix. I must say, Felix sees Tesla as a colleague (and a little bit of a hero, too, if I can dig into his mind a bit ;)).

:) So, yeah. I guess you could say Tesla and Felix became my book boyfriends for a while. At the very least, Tesla added just a smidge of flavor to the story, for me. I hope for you too.

I've also already had a guest post/interview, which you can see here. Meanwhile, I'm plotting new things. *rubs hands evilly*

add
Anyway, that's what I've been doing this past week. Working very hard on getting the new book baby, House of Dark Envy, out into the world. I hope y'all will enjoy it! Please feel free to leave book reviews if you enjoy it and please, spread the word. Tell your friends. Both word of mouth and reviews are important to authors, you know, and I appreciate them all!

(Sorry about any weird formatting here, Blogger is being a bitch and my hubby scared the crap out of me with some loud af video I wasn't paying attention to--while writing this up. Of course. Oh, well.)

Until later then, have a good week!

When you become a writer #quote #authorslife #amwriting

So true! And it's why, though you may not see me writing here, every day, those who know me know I'm usually writing something, somewhere. Whether it be a blog or a few scribbled lines of a story or a whole ten pages, it's all good. :) I hope you all have had a productive week. I have! :)

Women in Horror: Zrinka Jelic introduces us to her favorite horror author & offers a #giveaway

portrait, author Zrinka Jelic

My guest today is Zrinka Jelic. Zrinka lives in Ontario, Canada. She’s a member of the Romance Writers of America and its Fantasy Futuristic & Paranormal chapter, as well as Savvy Authors. She writes contemporary fiction, which leans toward the paranormal and adds a pinch of history. Given Jelic's love for her native Croatia and the Adriatic Sea, her characters usually find themselves dealing with a fair amount of sunshine, but that's about the only break they get.

Zrinka’s pick for favorite woman in horror is Alexandra Sokoloff. She is an American novelist and screenwriter, and the author of the Thriller award-nominated Huntress/FBI series, following a haunted FBI agent on the hunt for a female serial killer (Huntress Moon, Blood Moon, Cold Moon, published by Thomas & Mercer in 2015). Her first novel, The Harrowing, was published by St. Martin's Press in 2006. Her second novel, The Price, was published by St. Martin's in 2007, her third, The Unseen, in 2009, her fourth, "Book of Shadows", in 2010. She is a Bram Stoker and Anthony award nominee and a Thriller award winner, and the co-author of the paranormal mystery romance series "The Keepers".

She also co-wrote the screenplay for the psychological thriller Cold Kisses, and two books on story structure, Story Structure and Writing Love, based on her Screenwriting, Tricks for Authors workshops and blog.

Her short story, The Edge of Seventeen, was the recipient of a 2009 International Thriller Writers Award.

Springish Sunday Morning! #Sundayblogshare

Sunday Post was conceived by Kimberly at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I hope y'all had a good week. I did. Let's see this week--or at least this morning, my internet, for some reason, is very slow. I hope I can get this posted sooner or later... (Whoohoo, scheduling!)

For the rest of the week, I got a lot of editing done, so something new will be coming along. I've debated having a cover/synopsis reveal. In theory, they're supposed to create buzz. In experience?

I've never seen that work out. At least not for me. Suffice it to say, something new will be coming...I mentioned before I am ahead of schedule, but we will just see. I have always made plans in the past only to see them derailed. (I could tell you about a massive storm the weekend of my wedding...)

There was also a little jaunt to the Renaissance fair.I don't have those pics organized yet, but remind me, and I may show you one or two. :)

*hangs head* Despite what I said yesterday, I've not had a chance to finish/review the book I've been reading. But if all goes well, that will be on the slab for this week.

(a little morbid humor there for your Sunday morning. :) Sorry about that!)

Blog posts from this week:

And last Sunday's: Lots of reading this week--#amwriting #amreading #Sundayblogshare

Books I got this week.
Only one: The Crown of Stones (Magic-Price) by C.L. Schneider. You all need to see this cover; it's gorgeous!

I'm actually behind schedule today, so I have to make this short and wish y'all a good Sunday!
So, what have y'all been doing?

Working or hardly working? #amwriting #Saturdayblogshare #authorslife

Well, that's ... a silly question! Of course I'm working--on a new book, on a new manuscript, still on that knitting project. It's all in the works, always. :) I've got some final touches to put on the new book, but it looks like, I may be able to get it out before my deadline! Woot! Of course, I will keep you posted. :)

And then there was the Women in Horror event last week. So much fun! I hope y'all had a chance to stop by. :) I met some new, wonderful writers, so yeah. I had fun, anyway.

Other than that, yes, I am still knitting the project. It's about halfway to where I want it to be.

What did I read this week? I bit more of  Staurolite by Marsha A. Moore. Of course, I'm enjoying it. Dragons, war, magic. What's not to love there? :) Dragons are wonderful things, aren't they? :) I'm almost finished, so those of you following my review blog, stay tuned for that review. I should (hopefully) have it up this week.

An interesting side effect? (boys, go ahead, plug your ears!) I've noticed it's seemed to help with my  usual PMS rage. Well... Dragons as PMS quellers. Who knew? ;)

I got out to the park this week and walked around a bit (yea, exercise!) and my toe started hurting. *sigh* I have had this trouble for a while and I don't know what to put it down to. I tried new tennies, I've tried stretching before we go out. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. I will say, when I stretch it, I don't have to soak in epsom salts, after the fact. So that's a (ahem, pardon the pun) step in the right direction. :) I know my father had gout (probably caused by drinking when he was a younger man), but I doubt it's that. (I don't drink).  I think it's just arthritis and getting older.

Ugh!!

Yeah, I am.

Whatever it is, it's irritating to be hobbled after exercise or other long walks. Exercise is good for you, remember? Not.

For now, though, I have stuff to do. I just wanted to get in here and say happy Saturday!

before it gets too late...

I wanted to pop in here and wish you all a happy Valentine's Day, in however and with whoever you celebrate it. For myself, yes my hubby and I celebrate.  But also, it's a bit of an ancestor day. One of my grands was born on Valentine's Day. So, along with the usual hearts and flowers, there's a moment or two of good ole libations to be done.

So between that and Facebook events, editing, and such I didn't want to neglect to wish you all a good one!
