Halflings by Heather Burch

Halflings
by
Heather Burch
(review copy provided by Heather and the kind folks at Zondervan)

In Heather Burch's debut novel, Halflings, she introduces high school student Nikki Youngblood. More interested in her Karate matches than fitting in a school, she doesn't realize even bigger plans are in store.

When she's attacked by a pack of hell hounds, and saved by a mysterious group of boys, all she can think of is how grateful she is to be alive. Did she really, though, see something odd about the boys.? And now even bigger things start to happen, a fire at a genetics lab, the arrival of a strange mentor who seems not only to be interested in Nikki's parents antiques but also, in Nikki herself. What is it about Damon and why do Mace and Raven seem to dislike him so much? And who killed her parents and what does this all have to do with the end of the world? And more importantly, what does Nikki have to do with it all and can she really choose between Mace and Raven?

You'll have to read Halflings to Find out! Though it's a little heavy-handed on the religious connotations (well, it is put out by a Bible publisher), I'm sure fans of paranormal YA will enjoy this muchly, especially those seeking an alternative to Twilight. If you'd like to try Heather's novel, it's available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble stores everywhere; it's available in Kindle, Nook and in hardcover. Book two is just about to be released, and hopefully will answer some of the questions Halflings left unanswered. So be on the look out for that too.

Excuse me while I happy dance--new release

Posting everywhere and sundry, I know but...

For those that don't know..... I'm excited to announce my lil ole first novel is up live, for sale. On Amazon at least. If you'd like to take a peek, it is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Itunes, Smashwords, and Createspace.

Synopsis:
Trevor and Caitlin were once happy newlyweds, profiting from Trevor's art. Until Trevor inherits his brother's house, and with it, his part of an old Welsh family curse. Now, Caitlin will stop at nothing to save her beloved husband from insanity and suicide, even if it means she must embrace her destiny and become a witch.

I hope you will enjoy it!

I'm waiting for confirmation from Barnes and Noble that the book's gone live there. Sorry Nook friends, they're a little slower than I expected. As soon as I have that link, I'll post it for you.

I've been waiting a long time to announce this so please, indulge me a moment to do a happy little Snoopy dance around the circle, so to speak. :)

Please, if you know anyone that enjoys paranormal fiction, share the link around. Book Two in the Antique Magic series will be released soon-like....I don't want to promise a date. I'm writing fast as I can. I hope before Xmas, but don't quote me on that. I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy the story. *beams*

Update and Author Blog-in: The End of the World Sucks

Deception Cover Art
Hi again. Happy Sunday. :) I hope ya'll are having a good weekend. We are. I've been writing my little fingers off. Working on a new book and getting ready to release my first!  Nothing on the new books pile this week. I'm still reading those several from the library I told you about last week. Interesting stuff. For you YA fans,  I am almost finished with Heather Burch's Halflings, so look for a review of that, soon, and I'm still reading Deception by Lee Nichols.

Enjoying it too. Word of caution, if you have it on your TBR list? Do not look at the last pages of the book. I made that mistake and saw a major spoiler that had me going "OH MAN!!!!" *headdesk* Why do publishers *do* that????

Oh, well....

I saw this via my mail *waves to Kate Policiani* and thought y'all might find this dystopian novel interesting.

via Author Blog-in: The End of the World Sucks «.

Also, via Library Girl reads and reviews, I saw there's a .99 cent sale going on on some good  books--Ann Charles and Terri Giuliano Long just to name a few. Check it out here.

And that's me for this weekend. Back to writing. Working on Book Two....:) Details soon, patience, grasshoppers!

Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc’s Olde Worlde Magic

Olde Worlde Superstitions
by Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc
(my review copy given by the author, who, yes, is my friend)

Man is a suspicious lot, as evidenced by some of the ruins left behind by prehistoric humans—cave paintings and rock carvings depicting various ritualistic figures. We still today carry some of those superstitions with us—carrying lucky rabbits’ feet and other such charms on our persons.
Horror and sinisteria author Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc, most well-known for her novels A Man of Two Worlds and Fallen From Shadow, Found in Grace tackled the subject of charms and superstitions in a latest work, a non-fiction piece entitled Olde Worlde Magic: Superstitions and Lore.

The booklet compiles in encyclopedia form, everything from Animal superstitions—such as the well known cat superstitions—say, what it means to see a cat washing behind its ears, to the ubiquitous black cat legends—to lesser known ones such as the meaning of foxes, how goldfish might affect your life, and even horses. Some other superstitions she covers here are the superstitions surrounding various flora, superstitions once used to portend a person’s future love life and familial situations, and even ways to keep away unwanted visitors.

Olde Worlde Magic: Superstitions and Lore by Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc is a fun little tome, either for a rainy day, for curiosity’s sake, or, for the writers among my readers, to add a little flavor to your stories. If you’d like to check it out, it’s available at Amazon.com and Lulu.com.

Hi all, I've been ill the last few days, so do forgive the lack of posts. Haven't been able to look at a computer screen without getting all queasy. *blech* It also made me totally forget Suzanne. I'm pleased to announce I am guest today over at the lovely Suzanne Lazear's group blog Steamed.

The post is here: http://wp.me/pukAW-1lm
Do please share and stop by to say hi, if you wish. ;)
