In Princess In Love, the third in Meg Cabot’s popular Young Adult series The Princess Diaries, Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo, fifteen year old New York native and heir to the throne of Genovia (the small European country her father rules), is still trying to make sense of the recent revelation that she’s a princess, and her father’s sole heir. Now, she’s acquired a boyfriend, but… she is a little unsure of him. She’s not sure she necessarily loves the boy as much as he loves her, or claims to. After all, he has yet to ask her to the Non-denominational Winter Dance.
Meanwhile, her best friend Lilly is up in arms over her latest cause, yet Mia doesn’t seem very supportive. How can she be? Between her boyfriend, the irritating cheerleaders mocking her, and her upcoming introduction to the people of Genovia, and her ongoing Princess Lessons with her grandmother, Queen Clarice, life is just one big disappointment after another. Most importantly in the midst of all this turmoil, she despairs of ever catching the eye of her true love: Lilly's brother Michael!
I just love these books and this is no different. So...as ever, five pearls all the way.
Like all Meg Cabot’s Princess books, Princess in Love is fun, sweet, and freakin’ hilarious. You can read this one without having read the previous two books, (but as a fan and a completist, and someone who has had Ms. Cabot on my autobuy list for years, I recommend you read them all. And guess what, gents. Even some men I know find these enjoyable, despite the girly pink covers of some of them!), so, if you are still jonesing for anything Royal, do check it out (they are available at barnesandnoble.com or at Amazon). I promise you’ll love Princess in Love.
